TNT offered Ray Parks a contract, says team governor Ricky Vargas
TNT team governor Ricky Vargas quashed rumors that Ray Parks decided to sit out the 2021 PBA season because of his contract situation.
In a virtual press conference on Tuesday, Vargas said the Tropang Giga offered Parks a contract.
He also said the 28-year-old guard has not contacted the team following his announcement of a sabbatical due to family reasons.
"There's no update on Rayray. He has not gotten in touch with us. Personally, he has not gotten in touch with me as well," Vargas said.
TNT team owner Manny Pangilinan earlier expressed doubts about Parks' reason for leaving the team.
In light of Parks' situation, the PBA said it has formed a group which will study issues regarding players' contracts.
It will include a couple of layers and will be headed by Terrafirma governor Bobby Rosales
"We are looking at several policies that do not only talk about Rayray. It talks about the current situation," Vargas said.
Cases that will be tackled by the group include players filing for leave of absence and players who want to play in other leagues, whether local or international.
"These are all issues facing us squarely as the PBA has gotten more universal," Vargas said. "Since there are a lot of talents here, the world is looking at them also, especially Asia, all these have to be reviewed and addressed."
For PBA vice chair Rosales, the review will be done because the said issues affect all basketball stakeholders.
"There's a myriad of issues involved here. It really requires deeper study so we will be able to address different scenarios," he said. "Hopefully, we can come up with policies on these issues." —MGP, GMA News
