Greg Slaughter bids goodbye to Barangay Ginebra with heartfelt message

Greg Slaughter penned a heartfelt message for Barangay Ginebra shortly after news of his trade to NorthPort broke on Friday.

The 32-year-old center was shipped to Batang Pier on a one-on-one swap with big man Christian Standhardinger.

On Instagram, Slaughter thanked his teammates, coaches, team executives and the fans for the "tremendous six years" with the Gin Kings.

"Although I am saddened to know that my journey with them has officially come to an end, from the first pick in the draft to all star and multiple championships, I will always look back fondly at the time I spent there," he said.

Slaughter also posted a photo of him wearing a Ginebra jersey while holding a basketball.

The big man missed action in the PBA bubble late last year after taking a sabbatical with the expiration of his contract with Ginebra.

He expressed his desire to return to the Barangay in December, but he is now looking forward to this new chapter in his career.

"I still have my best basketball ahead of me," he said. "I have so much left to give the game and just as blessed as ever to play the game I love in front of all the fans who have been with me through it all, no matter what jersey I wear."

Slaughter will be the new centerpiece in the coming season for the Batang Pier, who finished the Philippine Cup last year with just one win.

"Sa lahat ng patuloy at walang sawang sumusoporta sa akin, taos puso akong nagpapasalamat. Pinapangako ko sa inyo na hindi ko kayo bibiguin," he said.
