Kai Sotto to join Gilas Pilipinas for 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers


Kai Sotto has confirmed that he will play for Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming February window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.

On Instagram, Thursday, the 7-foot-3 big man said he will be back in the country soon for the continental tournament.

"Sobrang excited ako na nabigyan ng opportunity para makapaglaro sa Gilas ngayong February window," he said.

"Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng sumusuporta at naniniwala sa aking pangarap na makapaglaro para sa bayan at sa tamang panahon, sa NBA," he added.

Sotto will join several professional and collegiate standouts when he makes it to the Gilas bubble in Calamba, Laguna.

The 18-year-old center renewed his commitment for the national team in December.

Sotto is currently training with NBA G League select team Ignite, along with fellow NBA prospects such as Jalen Green and Daishen Nix.

Ignite is part of the G League tournament which starts in February in the Disney World bubble. There is no released schedule yet for the tournament.
