UAAP cancels Season 83 in consideration of 'health and safety of the student-athletes'
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines decided to cancel its 83rd season.
The announcement was made by the league on Friday, "putting major consideration on the health and safety of the student-athletes and those involved in the operations of our competitions."
"The decision will allow UAAP member-schools to plan their activities for the remainder of the academic year, as well as their athletic programs for next season," it added.

UAAP Season 83 is supposed to be hosted by De La Salle University.
The league will still discuss the implications of the season's cancellation.
It previously considered holding its events in the first quarter of 2021, with the option of having a tournament schedule like the Southeast Asian Games.
The UAAP suspended some of its competitions at the latter end of Season 82, March this year, due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
Season 82 was officially terminated in April, following the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region.
