Barangay Ginebra takes 2-0 lead vs TNT as Scottie Thompson hits clutch 3 anew
Barangay Ginebra just went up 2-0 against TNT after a come-from-behind 92-90 win in Game 2 of the PBA Philippine Cup finals on Wednesday.
Scottie Thompson once again played the hero for the Gin Kings, hitting a clutch three-pointer from the right corner to give Ginebra the lead with 30 seconds left.
It was his first and only field goal of the game and he also had six turnovers, though he grabbed nine rebounds and dished three assists.
LA Tenorio, who also struggled to get his offense going throughout the match, redeemed himself after hitting crucial free throws down the stretch.
Tropang Giga led by as many as 15 points midway in the third quarter even without Ray Parks, who is nursing a calf injury.
But the Kings rallied to close the gap before heading into the final period, with Stanley Pringle and Aljon Mariano taking turns with the scoring duties.
Jared Dillinger and Jeff Chan also hit key treys to cut the deficit to just two points, 68-70.
RR Pogoy exploded for 38 points for TNT and four others scored in double digits, but they could not swing the momentum back in their favor when Ginebra tied the game with two minutes on the clock.
Tropang Giga will try to avoid a 0-3 hole on Friday for Game 3 of their best-of-seven series, while the Gin Kings will attempt to go for a commanding lead.
