Oftana, Tungcab make it to Final 12 as Gilas aims Thailand sweep

Calvin Oftana and Jaydee Tungcab have been named to the final 12 of the Gilas Pilipinas lineup that will attempt to sweep Thailand in the second window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers.

Oftana and Tungcab will replace Mike Nieto and Will Navarro, who were part of the team which won against the Thais, 93-61, on Friday.

The final roster, announced by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on Sunday, includes Dwight Ramos, who led Gilas in scoring with 20 points in Friday's game, and Juan Gomez de Liaño and Justine Baltazar who chipped in 12 points each.

Holdovers from the last game include PBA draftees lent for Gilas Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, and Matt Nieto, and collegiate standouts Kobe Paras, Javi Gomez de Liaño, Dave Ildefonso and Kenmark Cariño.

Head coach Jong Uichico said the team relied on its depth to deliver their second win in the continental qualifiers. The Philippines bagged its first win last February against Indonesia.

"I think we had more depth than they had, so that's why the outcome of the game was decided, somewhere in the fourth quarter," Uichico said after defeating Thailand.

Here are some highlights of the win:
