Barangay Ginebra draws first blood in OT vs. TNT in PBA Finals


Barangay Ginebra San Miguel took Game 1 against the TNT Tropang Giga in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals, 100-94, in overtime on Sunday.

Ginebra opened the extra period with a 4-0 run to take a 96-92 lead over TNT with 3:27 left. A Roger Pogoy shot broke the ice for the Tropang Giga, but Aljon Mariano answered with a layup to give them enough cushion as the game entered its final minute. A Japeth Aguilar slam with 19 ticks left delivered the win for Barangay Ginebra.

Ginebra limited TNT to just two points in the extra period after an Arvin Tolentino shot forced the game into overtime, 92-all.

Both teams were locked at 41 at the end of the first two quarters of action.

Japeth Aguilar registered 25 points and 16 rebounds, while Stanley Pringle chipped in 24 markers for the Ginebra win. LA Tenorio logged 12 points and 10 assists.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven finals will be played on Wednesday.
