Jong Uichico named Gilas Pilipinas head coach for November window of FIBA Asia qualifiers
Jong Uichico has been named the head coach of Gilas Pilipinas for the November window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio made the announcement in a virtual press conference on Thursday.
Uichico will be joined by SBP program director Tab Baldwin, assistant coach Boyet Fernandez, and Alton Lister.
"It's a welcome challenge. We're trying to do the best we can to make them ready for the international game," Uichico said about his new task.
"The young players are willing learners and hard workers so that's something positive we can look forward to," he added.
The Gilas Pilipinas pool for the November window of the qualifiers include collegiate standouts such as Isaac Go, Mike and Matt Nieto, Rey Suerte, Allyn Bulanadi, Dave Ildefonso, and Kobe Paras.
SBP said the final lineup will be released a day before the first game on November 28.
The Philippines will play the November window of the qualifiers in the FIBA bubble in Manama, Bahrain. —MGP, GMA News
