Barangay Ginebra whips Terrafirma to clinch top seed in playoffs

Barangay Ginebra clinched the top spot in the playoffs after walloping Terrafirma, 102-80, in their final elimination round game at the PBA Philippine Cup on Monday.

The Dyip kept pace with the Gin Kings in the opening period, but Tim Cone's squad went on a 35-point rampage in the second quarter to create a 61-37 separation at the half.

Terrafirma rallied again in the third and trimmed their deficit to 10 points heading into the final frame, 77-67, but Ginebra limited them to just 13 points while scoring 25 to claim the lopsided win.

Japeth Aguilar led the Gin Kings with 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, while Aljon Mariano had a double-double performance after making 17 points and 11 boards.

CJ Perez and Juami Tiongson finished with 16 points apiece for the Dyip, who is currently 1-9 in the standings and will play one more game against NLEX on Wednesday.

Ginebra finished the elimination round with an 8-3 card.
