Tim Cone in the dark about Greg Slaughter's plans: 'We don't know if he's gonna come back'

Barangay Ginebra head coach Tim Cone admitted that he has no idea of Greg Slaughter's plans for his basketball career.

In the "Coaches Unfiltered" podcast, Cone said he has tried to contact the big man but he hasn't received any response.

"We don't know if he's gonna come back. We do know, just like everybody else, that he's working out," Cone said about Gin Kings' center.

"Last we heard is he's gonna make a tryout with the NBA G League. I don't know if that's true, we heard that from a third party," he said.

Slaughter announced in February that he is going to take a break after his contract expired and said that he is "proud to have played for Ginebra."

In an interview on PBA Media Day, Cone said the big man told him about his plan to take a breather during his exit meeting after Ginebra won the Governors' Cup championship.

"He did mention three to four months at that time. I wasn't sure if he was gonna go through with it," the coach said.

Despite Slaughter's absence, the decorated tactician believes Ginebra can still pull off a few tricks once the PBA returns.

"He can be a force at times and it's tough to have something ripped away from you like that without getting anything in return," Cone said. "But, we'll find ways to replace him." —Justin Kenneth Carandang/MGP, GMA News
