FIBA suspends all competitions amid COVID-19 pandemic

FIBA has suspended all its competitions due to concerns over the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a press release, the basketball federation said all tournaments are postponed starting Friday, March 13.

This came after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic.

"FIBA will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and will evaluate the options for the continuation or not of the respective competitions when and if the situation allows for it," the announcement read.

The NBA has also decided to suspend its games on Thursday after a Utah Jazz player was confirmed with COVID-19.

FIBA earlier postponed the 3x3 Olympic qualifiers and rescheduled the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup and the FIBA 3x3 U17 Asia Cup to September. It also cancelled the FIBA U16 Asian Championships for men and women. —MGP, GMA News
