Lee, Cansino combine for 50 as UST preys on UE
The UST Growling Tigers notched their fifth win in UAAP Season 81 after defeating the UE Red Warriors, 79-68, Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
Marvin Lee listed a career high 30-point performance, while rookie of the year candidate CJ Cansino stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. Cansino is the first rookie who listed a triple-double since computerized stats were used in the UAAP in 2003.
It was a Marvin Lee show for the Tigers early on in the game, with the fourth year guard waxing hot from rainbow country as he converted seven treys in the first two quarters. Lee and CJ Cansino combined for 34 of UST's 39 points before heading to the break.
UE tried to make a come back with Alvin Pasaol's 17-pt performance during the third quarter, but it was not enough as UST made 20 points each in the final two quarters, while the Recto-based squad listed 16 and 19 points.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-5 while UE slides to 1-10.
UST will face the DLSU Green Archers on Saturday while UE will try to bounce back against the FEU Tamaraws on Sunday. — LA, GMA News
