PBA: Pringle fires 50 as GlobalPort defeats Columbian

Stanley Pringle erupted for 50 points to lead the GlobalPort Batang Pier to a 133-115 victory over the Columbian Dyip in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Pringle went 18 for 30 from the field, connecting for nine triples with six assists, five boards, and three steals in under 41 minutes on the floor. Import Malcolm White chipped in 28 points with 14 boards, while Jonathan Grey and Sean Anthony paced the bench with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Anthony, in particular, hauled 17 big reounds with six assists and five steals in 33 minutes.

It is the first time since 2004 that a local tallied 50 points. The last player to do so is Asi Taulava, who scored 51 points for TNT against Purefoods in the Fiesta Conference.

Columbian relied heavily on their starters, with the five accounting for all but 12 of the Dyip’s points. John Fields posted 26 points, 23 rebounds, and six assists with four blocks, while Eric Camson added 24 markers, Rashawn McCarthy and Jerramy King added 21 apiece, while Glen Khobuntin scored 11.

GlobalPort overcame an early 10-point deficit, maintaining a double digit advantage for most of the second half. At one point in the fourth, the Batang Pier led by as many as 21 points.

Coach Pido Jarencio’s squad hit a high 50 percent from the field, while limiting Columbian to just 40 percent. The Batang Pier also dominated the boards, securing 66 to Columbian’s 44.

With the win, GlobalPort improved to 5-5, while Columbian slid to 4-7 just ahead of struggling tams NLEX (2-7) and Blackwater (1-9). —R. Fopalan/LBG, GMA News
