Meralco jolts Ginebra to force winner-take-all Game 7

The Meralco Bolts survived a tough challenge from a Barangay Ginebra side buoyed by a record-crowd to come away with a 98-91 victory in Game Six of their Governors' Cup finals series on Wednesday.

With the win, the Bolts set up a winner-take-all matchup in the ultimate game of the series — and of the season — on Friday. It was a reversal of fortune from last year's Game Six between the two teams, which saw Ginebra clinch the title against the same Bolts squad on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Justin Brownlee.

And Meralco did it while playing before a crowd of more than 50,000, most of whom were there cheering for the crowd darling Gin Kings.

Veteran Reynel Hugnatan scored 24 points on six three-pointers, along with seven rebounds, including a key offensive rebound in the dying seconds that killed the Ginebra comeback. Import Allen Durham was once again a tower of power for Meralco, finishing with 28 points and 19 rebounds. —JST, GMA News
