NLEX survives late Kia scare for 2nd straight win

The NLEX Road Warriors saw their 27-point lead cut to just six before hanging on to defeat the Kia Picanto, 100-93, on Saturday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.

Aaron Fuller had 24 points and 19 rebounds for NLEX, while Carlo Lastimosa and Kevin Alas scored 13 each. JR Quinahan rounded up the Road Warriors in double figures with 11.

After doubling Kia's output in the opening period, 36-18, the Road Warriors continued to hit their shots in the second, enough to take a 64-40 edge at the halftime break.

Kia tried to climb back in the third, outscoring NLEX 30-19 to make it a more manageable deficit, 83-70. They didn't let up in the fourth, going on a 16-9 blast to cut the lead to just six heading into the final 3:05, 92-86.

The Road Warriors countered with a 6-2 run, though, stretching the lead to 10 anew in the last minute, 98-88. Three straight misses from Nico Elorde doomed Kia, letting NLEX get away with the victory.

Markeith Cummings paced Kia with 39 points and 15 rebounds, while Glen Khobuntin tallied 15. Chito Jaime was the only other Picanto player in double figures with 13. —ALG, GMA News
