UP scores first win after defeating UE

University of the Philippines scored its first win in UAAP Season 79, fashioning out a 75-71 result over University of the East on on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Paul Desiderio and Jet Manuel scored 17 points apiece for the Fighting Maroons. Manuel came up with four straight points down the stretch to break the game's final deadlock at 69-all, and UP held on the rest of the way.

UP had lost its first three assignments this year before its breakthrough victory over the Red Warriors.

Dave Moralde chipped in 13 points for the Maroons.

Mark Olayon and Edison Batiller carried the fight with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for UE, which remained winless at 0-4. —JST, GMA News
