Fonacier fuels TNT past Star

TNT Katropa relied on a 39-point third quarter to take the lead and defeat the Star Hotshots, 115-105, on Sunday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.

Larry Fonacier came off the bench for 21 points and seven rebounds, going 8 of 11 from the field to spell the difference for TNT. Jayson Castro also tallied 21 points as a starter, while Mychal Ammons added 14 points. Mo Tautuaa scored 16, while Troy Rosario and Michael Madanly also had 10 points each.

Joel Wright carried Star with 27 points and 17 rebounds, while PJ Simon and Marc Pingris had 20 and 17 points, respectively. Mark Barroca paced the bench with 10.

Star actually had a decent shooting clip, connecting on 48 percent of their attempts, but TNT just happened to have an even more consistent stroke, hitting 61 percent from the field.

TNT converted a five-point halftime deficit to a 10-point lead late in the third, 89-79. The Katropa led by as much as 13 in the fourth, keeping Star at bay for the rest of the game. — DVM, GMA News
