Calvin Abueva plans to undergo throat surgery after PBA season

After missing the PBA All-Star Game last week, Calvin Abueva returned to action in Alaska's tough 117-114 loss against Rain or Shine on Saturday night.

The Beast skipped the mid-season spectacle after being hospitalized due to tonsilitis and dehydration, but he looked better as he finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.

Speaking to GMA News Online after the game, Abueva said he is planning to undergo surgery for his throat at the end of the Governors' Cup.

"Pabalik-balik na kasi 'yun [sore throat], kaming dalawa nung anak ko," he said.

Abueva was voted in as a starter for the North All-Star, but he missed the festivities for the first time in his career. It would have been his fourth appearance overall.

He was able to attend the league's outreach program to wounded soldiers in V. Luna General Hospital two days before the All-Star game, but was rushed to the hospital shortly after.

The Aces forward missed two games in the conference, sitting out Alaska's opening game against Meralco as he rested from his Gilas Pilipinas stint and serving suspension against TNT Ka-Tropa two games later. —ALG, GMA News
