Barangay Ginebra import Justin Brownlee could not play during most of the overtime period as the team lost 109-100 against Alaska Sunday night.
The American reinforcement, who temporarily replaced the injured Paul Harris, suffered from severe cramping down the stretch of the Gin Kings' attempted comeback against the Aces.
He made the first basket in the extra period to put Ginebra up, 96-94, but he was switched out with still 3:41 to go as team trainers tended to his legs.
"Nag-a-adjust siya sa system, but more so sa weather, eh. Medyo hindi siya sanay eh, kaya third quarter pa lang nag-ka-cramps na," said teammate LA Tenorio.
Brownlee arrived on Thursday and immediately joined four Ginebra practice sessions to learn Tim Cone's triangle offense.
But Manila's humidity got the better of him. "Medyo naghahabol siya at hindi siya nakakatulog, so nakakaawa. Pero very positive 'yung nakita namin sa kanya, offensively and defensively," Tenorio said.
The import's playing time was limited to only 30 minutes in the game, but he maximized his production on the floor with 31 points, 13 rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
"Labas-pasok siya kasi alam ni coach Tim na kakapusin e," the point guard explained.
Brownlee was offered a stretcher as he exited the court, but he turned it down, and managed to walk with help towards the locker room.
Tenorio said the big man's whole body cramped during the game, but Ginebra is hopeful that he would be able to adjust with the climate soon.
"Makuha lang niya talaga 'yung laro dito sa PBA at the same time 'yung second wind niya at condition niya, I think we’ll be in good shape with him," he said. — DVM, GMA News
