The San Miguel Beermen relied on a fourth quarter flurry to defeat Tropang TNT, 104-98, on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

"This is very important for us. I told the boys this is the start of the playoffs. Kung matatalo kami this is a best of three," said San Miguel head coach Leo Austria, as his team avoided a best-of-three quarterfinals mini series with Rain or Shine.
Instead, SMB will now take on eighth seed Star Hotshots with a twice-to-beat advantage.

TNT built their biggest lead of the game in the final frame, earning a double digit advantage after a pair of Harvey Carey charities at the 10:59 mark, 79-69. The Tropa still had a nine-point edge with 5:36 to play, before the Beermen went on a 20-5 run to snatch the game away.

"I'm happy for the boys dahil entire game catching up kami palagi," Austria added. "Nasunod lahat ng game plan namin sa last six minutes."

Tyler Wilkerson paced San Miguel with 36 points and 15 rebounds while Junemar Fajardo led the locals with 18 markers. Alex Cabagnot, Marcio Lassiter, and Chris Ross chipped in 10 points each.

David Simon led TNT with 32 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocks while Troy Rosario had 14, Kelly Williams and Mo Tautuaa added 10 apiece.
