Barangay Ginebra got Greg Slaughter back after a bout with measles, but the big man's presence wasn't enough as they still fell to the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 89-85, on Sunday.

Terrence Romeo broke the hearts of Ginebra fans with a clutch three-pointer on Valentine's day.

With the Batang Pier down by one and less than a minute remaining, Romeo shook off LA Tenorio's defense with a nasty cross-over and hit a cold-blooded three-pointer for an 87-85 lead.

The two teams traded misses afterwards, and then the Gin Kings found Tenorio wide-open at the corner with six seconds left. But the guard missed the go-ahead triple and Stanley Pringle secured the rebound for another GlobalPort possession.

Ginebra fouled Pringle after the time out, and last season's Rookie of the Year iced the game with two free throws.

GlobalPort led by as many as 15 points in the first half, but Ginebra caught up in the payoff period and even took an 81-77 lead until Romeo swung the momentum with a timely three en route to the win.

The Batang Pier improved to a 1-1 slate with the victory while sending the Kings to their second straight loss in the Commissioner's Cup.

Romeo finished with 21 points and six assists, while import Brian Williams notched an impressive 19 points, 17 rebounds, five assists stat line. Pringle had 14 while veteran big man Billy Mamaril stepped up for 12 points.

"It's a total team effort at the same time ina-appreciate ko yung defense namin," said GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio.

"In the end breaks of the game. They missed their shots; we got the rebound."

Two free throws from Slaughter gave Ginebra an 85-84 lead heading into the final minute, but Terrence Romeo hit the go-ahead trey while Stanley Pringle secured insurance charities to put the game away.

Slaughter scored 20 points in 26 minutes of play, leading all Ginebra players. Japheth Agular finished the game with 16 markers, while Sol Mercado and Mark Caguioa combined for 21 points. Import Othyus Jeffers had eight points and 16 renounce with a  four of 12 shooting clip. — APG, GMA News
