University of the East turned back the Adamson Falcons, 89-78, on Wednesday as UAAP Season 78 basketball action continued at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

"We had to dig deep for this win," said UE coach Derrick Pumaren after the game.

The Red Warriors won its second straight assignment after dropping its opener to University of the Philippines. The Falcons, meanwhile, suffered their third straight defeat.

The game was tight at the half with UE leading by just three points, 44-41, after a quick spurt from the Falcons to end the second period.

But the Red Warriors broke the game open late in the third period, using a 12-0 blast to take a 69-56 lead.

Adamson tried to make a run in the final period, coming to within seven points, 79-72, with three minutes left.

But UE held on down the stretch to put away to pesky Falcons for good.
