Roi Sumang 'excited' to play alongside UAAP rival Terrence Romeo in GlobalPort

The GlobalPort backcourt just got a lot more interesting with the addition of former University of the East star Roi Sumang.

The Batang Pier picked the sweet-shooting guard at 26th overall in the PBA rookie draft on Sunday, acquiring yet another scorer after selecting Terrence Romeo in 2013.

Sumang, who was projected to be selected the first round in mock drafts, said he does not mind falling all the way to the third round after a mediocre season with the UE Red Warriors in the UAAP.

"Hindi naman din kasi ako nag-expect. Basta ako ma-draft lang, masaya na ako," he said. "Ito 'yung pangarap ko, makapaglaro sa PBA."

Sumang said getting selected by GlobalPort had not crossed his mind prior to the draft, but he said he looks forward to playing alongside former collegiate rival Romeo.

"Excited ako kasi nung UAAP magkalaban kami so ngayon magkakampi na," Sumang said about the PBA's 2015 Most Improved Player, who played for the Far Eastern University in the collegiate league.

The 5-foot-10 Sumang, who played for Tanduay Light in the PBA D-League, said he might even need one-on-one matchups against GlobalPort's main man during practice.

"Siguro magiging close naman kami," he said. - RAF, GMA News
