Allan Caidic impressed with Kobe Paras' shooting

Even one of the greatest shooters the Philippines has ever produced is impressed with the improvement shown by young gun Kobe Paras.

Allan Caidic, the retired shooting guard who owns PBA record for most career three-point shots, could not help but notice the teen sensation's sweet stroke during the Rise Legacy night on Saturday.

Paras was part of Team Destiny composed of rising basketball stars who went up against Caidic's Team Legacy made up of legendary greats in an exhibition game at the House of Rise in Mandaluyong City.

The two-time FIBA 3x3 Under-18 Slam Dunk champion is mostly known for his ability to punish the rim rather than his outside game. Caidic, however, recognizes a gifted shooter when he sees one.

"Malaki pa-upside niya. I can see a big improvement on his shooting," the Triggerman said about the son of Legacy teammate Benjie Paras. "Nung nasa [La Salle] Greenhills siya, he's more a scorer and slasher, ngayon may three-points na."

Paras, who moved to the United States in 2013 to chase his NBA dream, is currently playing for the LA Cathedral Phantoms. He received several scholarship offers after suiting up in tournaments, but ended up committing to the UCLA Bruins for college.

Caidic said that the experience of playing in the US sharpened Paras' skills and gave him confidence- both of which are already showing in his brief stint facing active and retired PBA players in the Nike Rise event.

"Nagkakumpyansa, kasi ang kalaban mo dun mga buong Amerikano. It's good for him," the 52-year-old Caidic said. "Good luck sa kanya." - RAF, GMA News
