PBA: Yeng Guiao calls Ivan Johnson 'mentally unstable' after incidents with Paul Lee, Chris Tiu
Rain or Shine extended the Commissioner's Cup finals to a seventh game, but coach Yeng Guiao couldn't help but launch another tirade toward Talk 'N Text import Ivan Johnson.
The Elasto Painters' Game Six win was marred by another incident involving Johnson with three minutes to go in the fourth, when Paul Lee received a palm to the face in the middle of taking a shot courtesy of the American reinforcement.
The contact was assessed as a regular foul, which clearly dismayed Guiao.
"Sino naman maniniwala na bola 'yung habol niya? He was an arm's length away from the ball. He knew he would get Paul's face," he said in the post-game press conference when asked about the incident.
"I don't understand. What do you need to do to get a flagrant call?" he added.
Guiao also pointed out other incidents during the match, especially when Johnson seemed to go after Chris Tiu following a steal attempt by the Rain or Shine guard.
"Hinabol niya si Chris, I don't know why," he said. "For what? Why wasn't he even warned? And he was in a fighting stance."
Johnson has figured in several incidents in the playoffs, including a sideline bump on Guiao in Game One of the finals. He was slapped with a P150,000 as punishment, but escaped suspension.
Guiao has been calling out the league for their inaction on Johnson's actuations, even saying that officials are letting the import act with impunity.
"Bakit ganun? Anong nangyayari? Kalokohan e," he said. "I think he's mentally unstable but that should help us."
In the end, it was the Elasto Painters that had the last laugh, as they lived to fight another day. Johnson, meanwhile, had the worst performance of the series, managing just six points and hardly being a factor down the stretch. -- JST, GMA News
