PBA: AZ Reid says altercation with former coach Yeng Guiao 'nothing personal'
By MARISSE PANALIGAN, GMA News
In the middle of speaking to reporters after the highly-charged game between San Miguel Beer and Rain or Shine, Arizona Reid excused himself for a bit to talk to ex-teammate Beau Belga.
"Am I in the wrong?" he was overheard as saying.
The import had an altercation with his former coach Yeng Guiao during the game, which led to the fiery mentor's ejection from the court with 2:14 remaining in the fourth.
Reid himself also picked up a technical for using profane language, but Guiao said what set him off were the import's "disrespectful" gestures towards the Rain or Shine bench.
San Miguel head coach Leo Austria came to the defense of his import during the post-game press conference, saying that Reid's antics were just misinterpreted.
Reid also explained his actions, particularly his celebratory move of hitting the side of his head with the tip of his fingers whenever he nails down a trey.
"Every time I hit a three pointer I do the same thing. Every time. It's never nothing personal," he said, adding that he is thankful to the coach for giving him the opportunity to play in the PBA.
He also talked to Rain or Shine guard Paul Lee after his interview with the media.
Lee, for his part, said that the episode could have been avoided if Reid did not engage Guiao further:
"Sabi ko lang you should be the one to adjust. You know Coach Yeng. You played for him for three years," he said.
"'Yung may maling point lang talaga dun is sinagot niya talaga si coach Yeng; nakipagsagutan siya," Lee added. "Sasabog talaga." - RAF, GMA News
