PBA: Talk 'N Text outlasts Purefoods in overtime thriller

 

Larry Fonacier nailed a big shot to force overtime while the rest of the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters took care of business in the extra period against Purefoods, 100-96, on Wednesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

 

Purefoods had taken a two-point lead, 88-86, with 3.6 seconds remaining after Marc Pingris got away for a layup.

 

Talk 'N Text sued for time and found Fonacier, who scored with six-tenths of a second remaining to force the extra period.

 

It remained a nip and tuck affair in overtime, with the two teams remaining tied a couple of minutes in at 92-all.

 

But Harvey Carey scored four straight points to give Talk 'N Text extra breathing room down the stretch, 96-92.

 

Down by 98-96 with 28 seconds remaining, Purefoods had three chances to tie the game. But Mark Barroca, James Yap, and Joe Devance all missed their attempts, and Jimmy Alapag came in to seal the deal with two final free throws. 

"It's always tough to play Purefoods," said Talk 'N Text coach Jong Uichico. "Hopefully, this will carry to the next game on Friday. Mabuti nakalusot kami dito, Purefoods is very disciplined."

 

Ranidel De Ocampo scored 18 points to lead Talk 'N Text, which firmed up its hold of third place at 7-3. Purefoods lost its second straight game to fall to 5-5. — JST, GMA News
