PBA: After winning Grand Slam, San Mig Coffee back to being Purefoods
After winning a Grand Slam last season, the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers will once again carry the iconic Purefoods brand this year.
Team officials announced the development at a thanksgiving party for fans in Libis, Quezon City on Wednesday.
"I'm really excited about going back to Purefoods," said coach Tim Cone. "I hope everyone else is, too."
Purefoods joined the PBA in 1988, quickly becoming one of the league's most popular teams with a lineup featuring Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codinera, and Jojo Lastimosa.
"This is where we all started, I hope we can live up to their legacy," added Cone.
The franchise last carried the Purefoods brand in 2010, when the squad was known as the Tender Juicy Giants. The team spent a couple of seasons as the B-MEG Derby Aces and later, just the B-MEG Llamados before taking on the San Mig Coffee brand.
The team will be known as the Purefoods Star Hotshots.
"Why not Hotshots? We won four championships... we're the hottest team in the PBA right now," said team executive Rene Pardo. — Jessica Bartolome/JST, GMA News
