PBA: Jason Webb set to join San Mig Coffee Mixers as assistant coach

The San Mig Coffee Mixers are set to welcome former PBA player, TV analyst, and FTW panelist Jason Webb to their bench as one of Tim Cone’s assistants, taking over the spot vacated by Jeffrey Cariaso, who joined Barangay Ginebra San Miguel prior to this conference as that team’s head coach.

Webb, who began his PBA career after being picked third by Sta. Lucia Realty in the 1997 draft, is expected to join the Mixers when they start their best-of-five semifinal showdown later this week.

“The San Mig Super Coffee Mixers are excited to announce that TV5 commentator and ex-PBA player Jason Webb will be joining the coaching staff as an assistant,” Cone said in a statement released to media outlets on Wednesday.

“We’re extremely pleased we were able to lure Jason out of the commentator’s booth and onto the Mixers bench. We feel with his insights into the game and work ethic, he will be a valuable contributor to the staff,” added the Mixers bench tactician.

“Jason will join the team in time for the semifinal showdown with Talk ‘N Text.”

Webb, son of former PBA legend and former senator Freddie Webb, will be joining current San Mig assistants Richard del Rosario, Johnny Abarrientos and Mon Jose to help Cone, who is trying to lead the Mixers to a grand slam finish in the season-ending Governors Cup.

Webb is a former De La Salle standout who spent six seasons in the pro league. He is also currently a councilor in Paranaque City. - Richard Dy, SPIN
