PHL record for the longest basketball game officially recognized online
A new world record set by the Philippines for the longest basketball game nearly two weeks ago has been officially recognized online.
The game, which lasted a little over five days, was acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the "longest marathon playing basketball."
"The longest marathon playing basketball is 120 hours, 1 minute and 7 seconds, achieved at the Meralco Gym in Manila, Philippines from 24-29 March 2014," GWR said on their official website.
It acknowledged Walang Iwanan and Bounce Back as the teams in the game, and Asian Cable Enterprises Inc. as the organizer.
GWR's online acknowledgment came nearly two weeks after the actual feat.
Last March 29, the Philippines hit two birds with one stone by setting a new world record for a marathon basketball game, and benefiting victims of super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
In the game, Team Bounceback scored 16,783 points, while Team Walang Iwanan had 16,732.
An earlier report on dzBB radio said the teams raised funds for Yolanda victims, with the marathoners' next move being to build a basketball village in Negros Occidental. - Joel Locsin/JDL, GMA News
