NBA: Bobcats turn back Nets in overtime

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Center Al Jefferson had 35 points and 15 rebounds, and guard Kemba Walker added 20 points and 12 assists as the Charlotte Bobcats beat the Brooklyn Nets 116-111 in overtime Wednesday night (Thursday, PHL time).

The Bobcats outscored the Nets 11-6 in the extra period and sewed up the victory on a bizarre play. Charlotte forward Chris Douglas-Roberts retrieved a blocked shot and hit a long jumper at the shot clock buzzer for a five-point lead with 10.1 seconds left.

Walker gave the Bobcats a 114-111 advantage by sinking a jumper with 43 seconds left.

The Bobcats (35-37) bounced back after 100-89 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday, while the Nets (37-33) suffered their second consecutive loss. It was Brooklyn's third straight overtime game. The Nets lost at New Orleans and won at Dallas in overtime earlier on their three-game road trip.

Douglas-Roberts, who also made a 3-pointer in overtime, finished with 16 points, and Bobcats forward Josh McRoberts scored 12.

Guard Deron Williams led Brooklyn with 29 points, and forward Mirza Teletovic came off the bench to score 22. Forward Joe Johnson added 18 points, and guard Alan Anderson had 10.

The Bobcats had the final shot in regulation, after Williams hit a 20-footer to tie it at 105-105 with 26.8 seconds left. However, Walker lost control as he started to shoot with the clock winding down, and the Nets came up with the loose ball just before the buzzer sounded.

Brooklyn led 28-24 after one quarter and 59-58 at halftime. The Bobcats led 83-78 after three quarters, and they were up by as many as nine in the second half. - Reuters
