NBA: Grant Hill announces retirement

Seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill announced his retirement Saturday (Sunday, PHL time) during the NBA on TNT pregame show for game six of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers.

The 40-year-old Hill, drafted out of Duke in 1994 third overall by the Detroit Pistons finishes with career averages of 16.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals over 19 seasons.

Hill had a terrific career in the late 90's, but saw ankle injuries take away much of his game come the new millennium, especially during his stint with the Orlando Magic. However, he found himself rejuvenated after signing with the Phoenix Suns in 2007, teaming up with Steve Nash for several memorable seasons.

A free agent this past offseason, Hill signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, but saw action in just 29 games after suffering a bone bruise in the preseason.

Among his other accomplishments, Hill was co-Rookie of the Year in 1995, and was a three-time NBA Sportsmanship Awardee. He won gold for the United States during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. - AMD, GMA News
