NBA: Mavs look to jettison Delonte West, pick up Eddy Curry in his place
Shortly after suspending Delonte West for an indefinite period, the Dallas Morning News reports that the Dallas Mavericks have placed a successful waiver claim on center Eddy Curry, who is slated to take West's roster spot. "We are excited to bring Eddy Curry to Dallas," Mavs President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson said in a report by Eddie Sefko. "He has worked extremely hard this offseason and can provide our front line with much-needed depth." Curry had been waived by the San Antonio Spurs last Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time). To make room for the 7'0" center, Dallas is expected to either trade or waive West, prior to the league's deadline for opening day rosters, which is Monday (next Tuesday, PHL time). West, who battles bipolar symptoms, had been suspended for the second time this preseason, due reportedly to "conduct detrimental to the team." The acquisition of Curry was necessary, after injuries to power forward Dirk Nowitzki, who is expected to miss up to a month due to knee surgery, and center Chris Kaman, who is out with a strained right calf and could miss the team's season opener next Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time), against the LA Lakers. After a lengthy absence from the league, Curry made his comeback with the NBA champions Miami Heat least season, figuring in 14 games and averaging 2.1 points and 0.9 rebounds. - AMD, GMA News
