Drew Barrymore gushes over arroz caldo made by Filipina chef Pilar Valdes: 'This is dynamite'

Drew Barrymore couldn't help but gush over arroz caldo after she and Filipina chef Pilar Valdes cooked the dish on "The Drew Barrymore Show."

On Instagram, Valdes shared a short clip from the show which showed her and the Hollywood actress whipping up the Filipino rice porridge in front of the audience.

In the video, Pilar told Drew that the dish is all about home.

"It's near and dear to my heart. It's called arroz caldo, which is basically Filipino rice porridge and this is all about home and story and when they bust [arroz caldo] out like [during] a birth, any celebration, any sort of gathering, they do this because with just a cup of rice, when it's done it feeds like a battalion of people and that's how we Filipinos roll," she said.

Pilar is a senior culinary contributor on the show and is also the chef co-founder of private chef and catering company Kickshaw Cookery in New York City.

According to Pilar, her mom used to make arroz caldo for her when she was sick, describing the dish as "hug in a bowl territory." Since she hasn't lived at home for 24 years, it's now her husband Gabe who cooks her the dish when she gets sick.

She also showed Drew the condiments used for arroz caldo, such as scallions, fish sauce, and garlic.

"And you have here scallions, a little bit of fish sauce 'cause remember we only season this dish in the beginning," said Pilar. "And then you have fried garlic which is very traditional, a squeeze of citrus, lime, lemon, and then a jammy egg."

Drew raved about the dish upon tasting it, telling Pilar, "How dare you?"

"How dare you? This is dynamite, this is so beautiful. Cheers, I cannot tell you guys, it has so much flavor, oh my God. It's so good, guys," Drew said.

"You have to make this so you can taste it because you have to taste it to believe it. It looks so beautiful but wait until it's in your mouth. You're gonna freak out. Pilar, thank you so much."

In the caption of her post, Pilar shared that she's always "thrilled" to share Philippine recipes.

She also wrote that their clip will be "up soon."
