Cynthia Erivo to star as Jesus in Hollywood Bowl's 'Jesus Christ Superstar' production

Cynthia Erivo will star as Jesus in Hollywood Bowl's production of the hit musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" this 2025.

According to the Hollywood Bowl on Instagram, the rock opera will run from August 1 to 3 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.

The show features original music and lyrics by creators Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo will serve as director and choreographer of the production, with fellow Tony winner Stephen Oremus as conductor and musical director.

Other cast members have yet to be announced.

On Instagram Stories, Cynthia shared a post announcing her role in the musical.

"Just a little busy this summer. Can't wait!" wrote the Tony, Emmy, and Grammy-winning singer and actress.

"Jesus Christ Superstar" follows the story of Jesus Christ and his relationships with his disciples during the last days of his life. The iconic musical made its Broadway debut in 1971 and in the West End a year later. Its musical film of the same name was released in 1973.

Some hit songs of "Jesus Christ Superstar" include "Gethsemane," "Heaven On Their Minds," "I Don't Know How to Love Him," Could We Start Again, Please?" and many more.

Meanwhile, Cynthia is fresh off her Elphaba role in Jon Chu's "Wicked," which is a contender for Best Picture at the Oscars 2025. She was also nominated for Best Actress for her performance in the musical film.
