A new ‘Scary Movie’ is in the works!
A new “Scary Movie” is happening!
The Wayans brothers, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen, are set to return with a new movie in their slasher film parody franchise.
On Instagram, Marlon announced the news by sharing a photo of him posing with a parody of Ghostface, the iconic murderer from the “Scream” films. He also tagged Keenan and Shawn in the post.
“WE’RE BACK!!!" the actor and writer said in his caption. "After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!”
“We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again,” he added.
According to a Deadline report, the film will start shooting in 2025 for a theatrical release.
Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen exclusively told the publication that they “couldn’t be more excited” for the upcoming film and to work together again.
“This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again,” the brothers were quoted as saying.
Miramax is the company behind "Scary Movie's" franchise while Paramount Pictures will be the worldwide distributor for the upcoming film.
“Scary Movie" premiered in 2000. Keenan wrote and directed "Scary Movie" and "Scary Movie 2," with Shawn and Marlon also starring in the first two films.
The parody movies spoofed classic horror films and TV series like “Scream,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “The Shining,” “Friday the 13th,” “The Sixth Sense,” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” among many others.
“Scary Movie” has four sequels, with the most recent film, “Scary Movie 5,” released in 2013.
