Louis Tomlinson writes Liam Payne a message: 'I'm really struggling with the idea of saying goodbye'

One Direction member Louis Tomlinson has issued a statement following Liam Payne's death.

Posting an old photo of the two of them on stage, Louis described Liam as "a positive funny, and kind soul."

"I am beyond devastated to be writing this" he said on Instagram, adding "Liam was somebody I looked up to everyday." 

"Liam was an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody," Louis continued, adding he was "the most vital part of One Direction" for "his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on."

Along with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan, Louis and Liam dominated the global airwaves as One Direction from 2010-2015. According to Louis, he was only 18, and Liam, 16, when they first met. "I was instantly amazed by his voice," he said and as they continued to work together, Louis said he "got a chance to see the kind brother I'd longed all my life for."

After thanking Liam "for shaping us," he wrote his friend a heartfelt message. "I feel beyond lucky to have had you in my life but I'm really struggling with the idea of saying goodbye," Louis began.

Recounting their off cam moments, Louis gave the public a hint of their close friendship, "speaking on the phone for hours, reminiscing about all the thousands amazing memories we had together."

"I would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasn't to be," Louis said.

He promised he will be "the uncle" to Liam's son Bear "and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was."

"Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you mate. Sleep well," Louis ended his heartfelt message.

Liam fell to his death at an Argentina hotel on Wednesday. Celebrities like Charlie Puth and Paris Hilton instantly mourned him on their social media accounts. Harry's mother, Anne Twist, also reacted to the unfortunate news posting a broken heart emoji on Instagram. "Just a boy," she said. 

Late Thursday, One Direction released a statement saying their were "completely devastated by Liam's death before members Harry, Zayn, and Louis wrote their personal messages on their social media accounts. Niall has yet to issue a message.
