YG Entertainment pursuing legal action vs. deepfake content involving its artists

YG Entertainment is pursuing legal action against deepfake content involving its artists.

In a statement posted on its website, the K-pop agency said it is "seriously concerned" about the creation and circulation of "inappropriate" AI-based synthetic videos.

"We are continuously monitoring these extensive and malicious illegal activities, actively working to remove and block such content. We are also pursuing all possible legal measures, including criminal proceedings, to address these issues," the statement read.

"We are committed to firmly and rigorously responding to any illegal acts that significantly harm the dignity and reputation of our artists."

YG Entertainment handles groups such as BLACKPINK, TREASURE, and BABYMONSTER. It also handles actors like Yoo In Na, Jang Ki Yong, and Lee Sung Kyung.

Earlier, JYP Entertainment vowed to take "strongest legal action" against deepfake videos involving its artists. The agency handles groups such as TWICE, ITZY, Stray Kids, and Day6.

This comes after Telegram chat rooms for sharing AI-generated pornography were reported by South Korean media.

According to a report from Agence France-Presse, South Korean president President Yoon Suk Yeol has already called for investigation into the issue.
