'Star Wars' series 'The Acolyte' reportedly won't return for Season 2

"The Acolyte" starring Amandla Stenberg, Filipino-Canadian Manny Jacinto, and Lee Jung Jae, is reportedly not returning for a second season.

According to reports from Deadline and Variety, film production company Lucasfilm has decided not to proceed with the "Star Wars" series just two months after the launch of its first season on Disney+.

The much-awaited series launched in June this year with two episodes, generating around 11 million views the world over in its first five days of streaming.

Amid the excitement surrounding "The Acolyte," however, the series garnered mixed reviews. Per the reports, while it seemed to have done all right with critics, the same cannot be said among its general viewership. It currently has an average audience score of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.

"The Acolyte," created by Leslye Headland, is set during the end of the fictional High Republic era, a century before the events of "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" (1999). It follows the story of twins Osha and Mae, played by Stenberg, who are separated as kids. Later on, Mae teams up with former smuggler Qimir (Jacinto), who is revealed to be a Sith.

The series also introduced a unique iteration of the Force, used by a coven of witches from the planet Brendock, who raised Mae.

Other cast members of "The Acolyte" include Jodie Turner-Smith, Joonas Suotamo, Rebecca Henderson, Dafne Keen, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Charlie Barnett.
