Miley Cyrus honored as youngest Disney Legend

At 31 years-old, Miley Cyrus is now the youngest Disney legend!

On Sunday, the “Hannah Montana” star turned emotional as she made her speech while receiving her award at the Disney23 event in Anaheim, California.

In her speech, “The Climb” singer detailed her audition experience for "Hannah Montana" and said that she will forever be proud to play the iconic character.

“I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana,” Miley said.

"She made Miley in so many ways. This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, 'This is the life,’” she added.

In an Instagram post, the pop star thanked Disney and dedicated the award to Hannah Montana and her fans.

“Thank you. Such an honor to be inducted as a Disney Legend. This award is dedicated to Hannah Montana and all of her fans. You’ve shown me legendary love & loyalty. Forever grateful,” Miley wrote.

According to Disney, to be named a Disney Legend is the highest honor bestowed by The Walt Disney Company on anyone “whose talent and achievement have earned them an enduring place in our history.”

“The fourteen individuals to be honored as Disney Legends this year have each made extraordinary creative contributions across the worlds of Disney,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.

Aside from Miley, Colleen Atwood, Angela Bassett, Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Mark Henn, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rohde, and John Williams were also honored as this year’s Disney Legends.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Miley was thrust into the limelight at age 13 when she played the lead character in the Disney Channel television series “Hannah Montana.” The series first aired in 2006.

She released several songs for Hannah Montana, such as “The Climb,” "See You Again," The Best of Both Worlds," "This is the Life," and more.

After her stint with Disney, she went on to release her own hit songs like “Wrecking Ball,” “Party in the USA,” and “Flowers” among others.

In February, Miley won her first Grammy, taking the best solo pop performance prize for her empowering anthem “Flowers.”
