SUGA of BTS apologizes for drunk driving incident; license suspended

SUGA of BTS has apologized for a drunk driving incident which led to the suspension of his license and a fine.

The rapper took to the BTS Weverse page to write a letter to the BTS ARMY.

According to a translation, he wrote, "Hello. This is SUGA. I am sorry and feel very heavy-hearted to come to you like this after disappointing you."

SUGA then talked about what happened. He narrated that he went out to dinner on August 6 and was drinking. After that, he went home using an electric scooter.

"Because I had been drinking, I did not realize that using an electric scooter after drinking was against the law, and violated the road traffic laws," SUGA said.

"I fell by myself in front of my home while trying to park the electric scooter, and a police officer that was nearby performed a breathalyzer test where they suspended my license and a fine was imposed," he added.

The artist added that there were no people affected or establishments damaged, but took responsibility for what happened, "to bow my head and apologize with no excuses."

"I'd like to apologize for my negligence and wrong behavior to all those whose my actions have hurt, and will be careful with my actions to make sure that things like this do not happen again," he said.

SUGA is currently undergoing his mandatory military service. So far, the only BTS member who has been discharged is Jin.

SUGA is also known as Agust D. As Agust D, he has released two mixtapes, a self-titled one released in 2016, and "D-2," which dropped in 2020.

He went on his first solo tour in 2023 in support of his album "D-Day," which features the tracks "People Pt.2 (feat. IU)," "Haegum," and "AMYGDALA."

BTS is set to reconvene as a group in 2025.
