Woozi of Seventeen clarifies issue about using AI on music production

Seventeen’s Woozi has addressed the issue about the group is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in producing their music.

According to an Unang Balita report on Wednesday, the K-pop star took to his Instagram stories to refute the claim, saying “All of Seventeen’s music is written and composed by human creators,” Woozi wrote in Korean and translated into English by Instagram.

His statement came after the BBC reported that SEVENTEEN and other famous artists might have used AI in their music productions.

In the article, BBC quoted Woozi’s past statement in a press conference where he told reporters he was "experimenting" with AI when making music.

“I have tried of course, because this is a technological development that we have to leverage, not just be dissatisfied with. It is something we have to use along the way. So I practiced using AI and tried to look for the pros and cons.”

According to a report from Soompi, a source from Pledis Entertainment denied the allegations stating, “It is not true that AI was used for lyrics of SEVENTEEN’s songs,” and that they conveyed their request to correct the information that was written in the relevant article, which has since been edited.

Seventeen’s beloved Carats have expressed their support to the K-pop idol on X (formerly Twitter) and condemned the BBC article with the phrase “Apologize to Woozi” trending on the platform with over 130,000 tweets.

The BBC has since issued a clarificaiton.

Woozi is the lead vocalist and music producer of Seventeen. He has composed and written most of Seventeen’s hit songs such as “Very Nice,” “Super,” and “God of Music.”

Woozi together with his fellow members headlined two sold-out concerts at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan in January for their FOLLOW tour.

In June, they were named as UNESCO’s first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth.
