Hyeri apologizes for cryptic post, addresses past relationship with Ryu Jun Yeol
South Korean star Hyeri has apologized for her cryptic post on Instagram Stories following the dating rumors surrounding her ex-boyfriend, Ryu Jun Yeol, and fellow actress Han So Hee.
In a statement posted on Instagram, which has now been deleted, the Girls' Day member addressed what happened as a result of her post.
According to a Soompi report, Hyeri shared a photo of a vacation spot and captioned it with "This is funny." Some people thought she was referring to the Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee rumors, which led to the latter seemingly responding with her own Story explaining her side.
"I sincerely apologize for the speculations and controversies that arose over the past few days due to my personal emotions," Hyeri said in her statement.
"I think I failed to consider the ripple effects that each of my minor actions could have. I sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed because of me."
Hyeri then spoke about her former relationship and breakup without naming names.
"Last November, the news was released that my eight-year relationship came to an end. It was not a decision made in a short period of time, and even after the breakup news came out, we had a conversation about talking more [about our situation]," she said.
"However, we have not had any contact or met since that conversation. And four months later, I think my emotions after coming across a new article were perceived not as actress Lee Hyeri but as just Lee Hyeri. I apologize once again for causing harm with my impulsive emotions."
Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol starred together in the 2015 K-drama "Reply 1988" and dated for a long time following the series. Their agencies confirmed their separation in November last year.
Meanwhile, Han So Hee's agency first denied the rumors that she is dating Ryu Jun Yeol. A day later, however, the actress herself admitted that they are dating through her personal blog.
"It's true that we are in a relationship with positive feelings. However, I hope that people will not use the word 'transfer,'" she said.
The "Nevertheless" and "Gyeongseong Creature" star also apologized for her own cryptic Instagram post, without naming Hyeri.
"I should have just stayed still, but even though I didn't want to see rumors and claims that I started dating [Ryu Jun Yeol] before his breakup, I still saw and heard them, so I temporarily lost all reason and behaved rudely," she said.
"I will apologize to that person regarding this fact, and I sincerely apologize to you all for not reacting wisely. Because I acted based on my emotions rather than rational thinking, I acknowledge that this is completely my fault, regardless of my reasons."
