Demi Lovato criticized for singing 'Heart Attack' at cardiovascular disease event in New York

Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack" performance at a cardiovascular disease awareness event in New York made the rounds online after some netizens said that the song choice was a poor decision for the singer.
On X (formerly Twitter), a netizen posted a snippet of Lovato's performance of her 2013 hit during the event, which includes the lines, "So I'm putting my defenses up / Cause I don't want to fall in love / If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack."
Several X users had mixed feelings about the trending clip, which garnered over 15.4 million views as of writing. Some said the song choice was poorly thought out, while others said people were too sensitive.
"In poor taste or the perfect song?" one X user tweeted.

In a report by Entertainment Weekly, a representative of Lovato said the singer chose to perform "Heart Attack" because she wanted to convey the "mind-heart connection."
"She did open with a beautiful intro on why she chose the song and addressed the room, talking about the mind and heart connection. It was actually a beautiful moment," the representative said.
"Heart Attack" is among Lovato's signature songs. On Spotify, the song has over 753,000,000 streams. Her other hits include "Cool for the Summer," "Sorry Not Sorry," and "Solo."
In December last year, Demi got engaged to her musician boyfriend, Jordan "Jutes" Lutes.
