Actress Suzanne Somers, known best for her role as Chrissy on the 70s hit TV sitcom "Three's Company", died on Sunday, October 15, according to her spokesperson. She was 76.

"Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th,” Somers' spokesperson, R. Couri Hay, said in a statement.

“Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband, Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” the statement read.

“Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly," Hay added.

According to the New York Times, Somers died at home in Palm Springs, California.

Somers was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, which was removed via lumpectomy and treated with radiation therapy. The cancer recurred in late July, reports said.

"I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again and I continue to bat it down," Somers said in an Instagram post on July 31. "This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear and I'm a fighter."

Aside from doing other TV shows such as "Candid Camera" and made-for-TV movies, Somers also wrote an autobiography, "Keeping Secrets".

She also had her own daytime talk show entitled "Suzanne Somers" in 1994, and was an advocate for fitness, health, and nutrition. —with a report from Reuters/KG, GMA Integrated News
