Dr. Tess Mauricio on the 5th Season of 'All in the Family'

During this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we noticed that some Asian-focused reality shows like "Bling Empire" and its spinoff, "Bling Empire: New York," have been taken off the air.

Representation is important and it needs to be seen on television, in films, and on stage. We need to support and showcase our AAPI culture, heritage, and talents in all media and genres.

So it is with great pride that Dr. Tess Mauricio, America's Favorite Dermatologist, and her multicultural family and their well-loved and popular "All in the Family" reality show are celebrating their fifth season on GMA Pinoy TV.

Dr. Tess, who is a medical pioneer, an in-demand guest speaker, book author and even a singer, recently celebrated the new season of "All in the Family" with friends, family, clients, media folks, and other guests.

The Season 5 premiere party and press conference was held at Evolus headquarters in Newport Beach. Evolus is the maker of Jeuveau neuromodulator for wrinkle treatment and Dr. Tess is a key opinion leader and brand partner.

We were able to interview the busy and in-demand dermatologist via email and below is our interview.

Congratulations on the 5th Season of "All in the Family." What do you think is the secret to the success of the show?

The secret to the success of the show is the love, unity, and fun viewers feel when they watch our family. Everything they see in the show is real. This is not staged or scripted unlike some reality shows, so I think people can feel the authentic emotions in our interaction and can really relate and hopefully feel inspired.

What were the highlights for you so far in this journey?

There are so many highlights because the shows on GMA Pinoy TV have really covered the biggest milestones for our family in the last 10 years! But for me, it has to be Jana's graduation from Stanford. This is always so memorable for any parent of a college graduate, but it is made special since James (Lee) and I met and fell in love at Stanford medical school. We got married at Stanford Church. I was pregnant and gave birth to Jana at Stanford Hospital. So, for her to graduate there, it completed our Stanford family story.

What should audiences look forward to in this new season?

This season we will share my mom's 75th and James' 51st birthday celebrations. Our house parties are always so much fun, complete with tons of music since our family loves to sing, dance, and perform!

We will also feature skin treatments and clinic visits with my friends, John Lennon's son, Julian Lennon and Miss Universe Margie Moran who were so gracious to allow us to film. And of course, we will cover my part in Khloe Kardashian's skin cancer scare journey which is also going to be highlighted in the third season of "The Kardashians" on Hulu.

What were some of the challenges you encountered on this journey and how did you handle them?

A big challenge is filming when all of us are so busy with our lives so scheduling can be chaotic at times. And many of our kids are all older now, Jana and Mara are full adults and at times are reluctant to be part of the show. It is challenging to balance being able to share our lives as a family and also keeping some privacy, especially in the climate of social media pressures. We give the young people of our family the choice of how much of their lives we will share and make sure they are as comfortable as possible.

What makes the Mauricio family special?

What makes our family special is we really are united. We are a team, and we support and love each other unconditionally. And we truly and genuinely enjoy each other and have fun together no matter if it's working or partying!

What do you hope audiences would get from watching "All in the Family?"

From my very first show on TV my hope has always been to provide content that will help inspire, educate and entertain the audience.

I feel representation is important in media and 10 years ago, there were very few shows that showed real life that audiences can relate to. Through the years, I have been touched by people's positive comments about the shows that it made making more episodes worth the effort!

You wear a lot of hats – a dermatologist, a speaker, a beauty/health educator, a wife and a mother. How do you juggle everything and what keeps you going?

I get asked a lot how I am able to juggle everything, and I truly feel I get my energy and power to do all that I do from my faith, family and friends.

It takes a village to have a meaningful and impactful life and I have the best village ever! It can still be challenging at times, and now more than ever, I realize self-care is absolutely vital to keep me physically, mentally and spiritually at my best. I hope this is something our audience comes away with from watching the show.

What are your other dreams?

I dream about making an even bigger impact in the world. I don't exactly know what that will look like yet, and I don't know in what way, but I feel strongly that I'm just starting in a way... Now that I am older, I know our destiny is in God's hands so I just pray, do my best every day, have faith that the right opportunities will come and make themselves known to me, and of course, always have fun along the way!
