Kim Hyun Joong on how 'Boys Over Flowers' changed his life
Kim Hyun Joong, best known for portraying Yoon Ji Hoo in "Boys Over Flowers," said that the 2009 Korean drama changed his life for the better.
On Thursday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the Korean singer-actor said that the series was famous not just in the Philippines and Korea but all over the world, which cemented his name as one of the most sought after actors of his time.
"Kaya 'yung lahat ng buhay [ko] talaga nabago, hindi lang sa acting and also sa singing din," he said through a translator.
Kim Hyun Joong caused many fans to feel the second lead syndrome while watching "Boys Over Flowers," as his character Yoon Ji Hoo is the rival of Gu Jun Pyo (played by Lee Min Ho) for the affection of Geum Jan Di.
The actor is well aware of the Hallyu wave in the Philippines, and he expressed his gratitude to Filipino fans for their unending support and energy for the Korean movies, series, and music.
"Sobrang lakas ng energy ng mga Filipino, and in the near future, malapit na rin magkaroon ng Philippine wave kasi ang ganda ng energy ng mga [Pinoy]," he said.
He also said that Filipinos and Koreans have many similarities, including their love for singing in karaoke.
"Sa Korea, sobrang daming Karaoke kasi mahilig kumanta, maraming billiards, dito meron din," he said.
"'Yung mga tao [sa Korea], masayahin. 'Yung mga Filipinos, napansin [ko] masayahin [din silang tao], he added.
Kim Hyun Joong will hold a concert on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Metrotent in Pasig City as part of his "The End of a Dream" World Tour.
