Ke Huy Quan on his Oscar win: 'I never thought that I would be in a position to inspire others'
Days after Ke Huy Quan made history at Oscars 2023, the Vietnamese actor took to Instagram to share a few words of thanks, along with some of his memorable photos holding his first-ever Oscar trophy.
The "Everything Everywhere All At Once" actor began his caption by acknowledging presenter Ariana DeBose and how she immediately shed a tear after announcing his name as the Best Supporting Actor awardee.
"I was watching her as she opened the envelope; she cried and announced my name with such affection. Thank you, Ariana; I will never ever forget that," Ke said.
According to the 51-year-old actor, the impossible was just made possible through the wins of the "Everything Everywhere All At One" team.
"Although it took a long time to get here, I would not have changed a thing," he said.
"I never thought that I would be in a position to inspire others. This is the most meaningful part of this entire experience," he added.
The actor thanked The Academy for giving him one of the most memorable nights of his life.
"You have given me more than what I could have ever asked for," he said.
Previously, Ke admitted that he almost gave up on acting because the opportunities for Asian actors and people of color were limited.
In fact, he used the screen name "Jonathan" to have an American-sounding name in the hopes of landing a job.
"When I decided to get back into acting, which was three years ago, the very first thing that I wanted to do was to go back to my birth given name," Ke said in an earlier report.
The Vietnamese actor also said it was Kevin Kwan's "Crazy Rich Asians" that inspired him to get back into acting. The author took to social media to express how surprised he was to know about it.
"I am so grateful that my book and film played a small role in your return to the big screen," Kevin said.
"Life has a strange way of coming full circle," he added. "Ke, congratulations on your much-deserved Oscar win."
On Oscar night, Ke went viral for another reason: He and one-time co-star Harrison Ford unknowingly recreated a scene from Indiana Jones, when they hugged each other after "Everything Everywhere All at Once" was named Best Picture.
