Selena Gomez is now the most followed woman on Instagram, takes social media break
Selena Gomez is now the most followed woman on Instagram, surpassing Kylie Jenner who previously held the top spot.
Selena currently has 384 million followers while Kylie has 380 million followers.
Despite being the reigning social media queen, the singer said she is taking a social media break.
"I deleted this one time because I thought maybe it was too much but eh (taking a break from social)," she said on Instagram.
Selena reportedly quit TikTok after two separate controversies with Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner. Her account is now activated again as of writing.
According to Billboard, netizens accused Kylie of throwing shade at Selena's eyebrows after Kylie posted a TikTok on eyebrows.
Kylie shut down the rumors, writing, "This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn't see her eyebrow posts! [You] guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly."
Selena herself commented, writing, "Agreed @kyliejenner It's all unnecessary. I'm a fan of Kylie!"
Billboard also reported that Selena defended Taylor Swift after an old footage of Hailey seemingly mocking the singer-songwriter resurfaced on TikTok.
"So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game," she said.
In a TikTok Live, Selena spoke in more detail about taking a social media hiatus.
"I'm going to be taking a second from social media, because this is a little silly. I'm 30, I'm too old for this. But I love you guys so much and I will see you guys sooner than later," she said.
"I'm just gonna take a break from everything," she added. "I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world, and I just couldn't be happier. I'm good, I love the way I am, I don't care. I'm big, I'm not, I don't care. I love who I am."
