The upcoming 'Succession' season is reportedly going to be its last
HBO is dropping "Succession" Season 4 in March and everybody and their uncles cannot wait, especially after such a messy cliffhanger of Season 3 finale.
But in an interview with New Yorker, "Succession" creator Jesse Armstrong said the upcoming season is going to be its last.
"You know, there’s a promise in the title of 'Succession.' I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind," Armstrong said.
He revealed that from Season 2, he'd been considering if it's "the next one, or the one after that, or is it the one after that?"
Armstrong shared that toward the end of 2021, he got together with his fellow writers. "And I sort of said, 'Look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?'"
They considered different scenarios like doing short seasons, or two proper ones, or writing "Succession" into an epic ride.
"Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference. I went into the writing room for Season 4 sort of saying, 'I think this is what we’re doing, but let’s also keep it open'," he said.
"Succession" is a story about the Roys, a filthy rich family that owns a media conglomerate. The Roy children are looking — and competing against each other — to become the successor of their father Logan Roy.
It stars Brian Cox as the patriarch, Jeremy Strong as the firstborn Kendall Roy, Sarah Snook as the only girl Shiv, and Kieran Culkin as the problematic Roman.
